Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential nutrient that must be obtained from the diet or through supplementation. It is found only in fruits and vegetables and is most abundant in fresh, uncooked foods.

Because vitamin C is easily destroyed during the cooking process, supplementation is a great way to ensure that you receive proper amounts of this essential vitamin.

Ascorbic acid, first isolated from lemons in 1932, prevents scurvy and is beneficial in fighting many other illnesses and nutritional deficiencies.

Perhaps the most important function of vitamin C is in the formation and maintenance of collagen, the basis of connective tissue, which is found in skin, ligaments, cartilage, vertebral discs, joint linings, capillary walls and the bones and teeth.

Collagen, and thus vitamin C, is needed to give support and shape to the body, to help wounds heal and to maintain healthy blood vessels. Vitamin C is also an antioxidant, helping to protect other vitamins from oxidation, and it’s a great immune system booster.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant, and it performs many functions involving the immune system and tissue development. It is involved in iron absorption and in the synthesis of enzymes, hormones and proteins.

The adrenal glands need large amounts of this nutrient in order to support immunity and help produce energy.

Water-soluble, vitamin C is easily washed from the body and needs to be constantly replaced. Without vitamin C, the body cannot make collagen, the substance that holds the body’s cells together and maintains skin integrity.

Each teaspoon contains 2,000 mg. vitamin C with three types of ascorbates: calcium, potassium and magnesium.

RECOMMENDED DOSAGE:

Add approximately 1 slightly rounded teaspoon (4.5 grams) to a glass of liquid and stir vigorously.

INGREDIENTS:

Amount Per 4.5 Gram Serving: Vtiamin C (calcium ascorbate, potassium ascorbate, magnesium ascorbate) 2,000 mg (3330 DV)

Other Ingredients: Maltodextrin, acerola fruit extract (Malpighia glabra), xanthan gum, natural orange flavor, rutin and hesperidin (bioflavonoids), and beta carotene. These non-acidic ascorbates are easier on the stomach, and may benefit people who have difficulty taking higher potencies of ascorbic acid.
