Marshmallow's (some people spell it marshmellow) high mucilage content and demulcent and emollient properties make it a soothing supplement for an irritated respiratory system.

Throughout the world, numerous members of the mallow family (of which cotton is a member) grow. Most species can be found in tropical and semitropical climates.

Among the thousand species that have been discovered, none are known to be poisonous. And every one contains an abundance of mucilage—an indigestible fiber that absorbs water and heat.

Though there are over a thousand species of marshmallow throughout the world, the one most helpful to the human body is Althae officinalis, a plant indigenous to Europe.

Nature’s Sunshine offers only the purest form of this species of marshmallow, to provide you with the most mucilage support possible.

Marshmallow contains 25–30 percent polysaccharides (mucilage) and 25–30 percent starch, which account for its demulcent effects on the digestive tract.
