Lobelia has been called by many names.

It has been called Indian tobacco because it contains a substance called lobeline, which exhibits relaxing properties that are similar to nicotine, but without the dangerous effects of tobacco products.

In fact, this plant has been used to help smokers wean themselves from cigarettes.
