1. Keep warm: stay out of the rain & cold winds so as not to catch cold (carry that umbrella just in case), especially keep your kidneys & chest warm. Your kidneys are your flanks of your back where your ribs end. They easily catch chills, causing loss of vital energy & body heat. 2. Avoid dairy, sugars and alcohol: all are mucous & phlegm-producing & sugar lowers your immune system. Eat lots of hot foods to help warm your body up. Now is not the time for summer salads & ice creams, but rather fresh vegetable soups, stews & casseroles. 3. Drink plenty of fluids as we tend to dehydrate even in winter due to the cold winds & heaters drying our skins. Hot herbal teas are wonderful: chamomile or valerian before bed for uninterrupted sleep, or, a slice of fresh ginger in hot water before meals. Avoid iced/refrigerated water/drinks as the body must use energy to raise the temperature of the drink to body temperature, wasting vital energy. Also, many parasites survive in the cold conditions created by the iced drink. 4. Stop it before it starts! At first signs of a cold or flu, take homeopathic Aconite; for sneezing, homeopathic Euphrasia; for a runny nose, homeopathic Allium Cepa. 5. Throat sore? Gargle immediately with fresh lemon juice only (no dilution or honey) after every meal - very effective. Or try the old remedy of salt & water as a gargle. 6. Eat as much onions, garlic and horseradish as you like, or other people can tolerate, if you feel a cold coming on as they are a natural antibiotic. A wonderful disguise for children or adults who do not like the taste is to slice an onion & some garlic cloves & pour a tablespoon of raw honey over the top. Keep it in the fridge in an airtight container & in 24 hours you have a sweet antibiotic syrup. A teaspoon/day of the liquid syrup helps kill any germs! 7. Coughs? If you do get a cough, inhaling a few drops of Eucalyptus or Tea Tree oil in a hot bath, bowel of hot water, hot shower or vaporiser helps clear your nose, head and chest. 8. Increase your vitamins.
Take Vitamins C,
A, bioflavonoids
& zinc in one tablet or
formula together daily. This will boost your immune system as well as
being anti-viral. Many herbs also prevent colds & flu & speed
your recovery, eg. Echinacea
& Thyme.
Ask your local herbalist. 9. Ask for Homeopathic
flu vaccine
to prevent head colds & flu. It is gentle, drug-free & non-allergenic.
Easy to take in sugar pill form before you are exposed to the flu
virus. 10. Uptight? Stressed?
Heavy cough? Have a Massage to increase circulation & stimulate blood
supply to the respiratory system as well as help clear excess phlegm caught
in your lungs. Maybe you just need to unwind and relax as studies show
stress lowers our immune systems, too. 11. Do regular exercise
that is stimulating & FUN as it helps the body clear toxins &
reminds us to enjoy life! Keep warm afterwards and remember to stretch
before & after. 12. Choose to be happy!
Laugh your way through autumn & winter. Research shows that our immune
systems are boosted & rates of illness fall dramatically when we are
laugh. Read humorous books or watch comedy videos. Smile! Ignore the media stories of death threats from imported viruses. Take positive action to be healthy and vitally alive. Your body and mind are capable of coping.
